Because I Am Female

If you loved Chimamanda’s words in Beyonce’s song Flawless, here is her full TED talk on feminism.

“I hope the fathers and mothers of little girls will look at them and say ‘yes, women can.’” – Dilma Rousseff

“You have what it takes to be a victorious, independent, fearless woman.” – Tyra Banks

“If there is one message that echoes forth from this conference, let it be that human rights are women’s rights and women’s rights are human rights once and for all. Let us not forget that among those rights are the right to speak freely — and the right to be heard.” – Hillary Clinton

“Feminism is the radical notion that women are people.” – Marie Shear

“I’m tough, I’m ambitious, and I know exactly what I want. If that makes me a bitch, okay.” – Madonna

“In politics, if you want anything said, ask a man; if you want anything done, ask a woman.” – Margaret Thatcher

“I just love bossy women. I could be around them all day. To me, bossy is not a pejorative term at all. It means somebody’s passionate and engaged and ambitious and doesn’t mind learning.” – Amy Poehler

“I tell my daughters to have their voice in this world, and it became clear I needed to role-model that.” – Melinda Gates

“[My mother] told me that fear was not an option. I was always told that women are stronger, so I believed it.” – Diane Von Furstenberg

“You dont find your worth in a man. You find your worth within yourself and then find a man who’s worthy of you. Remember that.” – Miracle

I love this – there are some really amazing quotes here. I really agree that girls should be told that they can do anything. That “yes women can” quote is something that really stuck with me – simply because, as a teacher, I notice a lot of girls feeling like they can’t do things because of their gender.

Thank you so much, Kate! It was inspirational researching and finding this material. It makes me sad that girls feel that way, but it’s obvious you are a teacher that tells them they can! Thank you for working such a powerful, influential job! I am excited to work on another post for this page next month, I’ll be sure to update you! 💕
