I was tagged in a 12 Lessons in 12 Months post by Lavrax and thought, what better way to recap my year than this?! I’ve learned and done so much in the past 12 months and I am truly so ecstatic to work hard and see what 2019 has to offer!
Changing what you want in life, your whole idea around what success looks like, is a good thing to do if it’s what you wanna do.
I grew up thinking I wanted to be a wife and a mother most importantly but I had a passion for business and working and this year I realized that I want to put that first. (And not just because no one seems to want to wife me up😉) So, that is exactly what I am doing.

This is the month I turned my internship into a full-time job and I will be celebrating my official 1-year anniversary on January 29! I have been able to work with some seriously amazing coworkers and I have learned so much about marketing and myself through the job. I am so grateful for the job and the two amazing and empowering women bosses that I have that made this all possible for me!

Self-care is NOT selfish.
I’m not sure who I was living life for before this. But it certainly wasn’t me. I have always been a people pleaser and I don’t think that will change BUT I’ve learned it shouldn’t hurt me in the process. It’s important to say no to things that aren’t healthy for you. It’s important to take time for yourself. It’s important to live life to the fullest for YOU.
Don’t worry about what people say or think about you. (Yes, I know easier said than done.) But don’t let it take over your life or let it change how you see yourself. I am still working on this but I am doing very well.(:
I learned you don’t stop aging.
I turned 23 on March 15th. I had to work on my bday but my dad was in town so we celebrated with some Memphis BBQ, a UKrop’s cake and some Hulu binge watching. I then got to go home the next weekend to party with fraaaands
This year my birthday falls on a Friday and I will absolutely be home visiting for it. Yay!🥂
I learned that my mom was right about just about everything she taught me in life which is really annoying.
But like also very helpful. It is crazy how much I’ve realized this year that loving yourself comes first and is the only way I believe you can truly love someone else. So, thanks mom for teaching me that lesson even though it took me many, many years to hear you and realize it is very true.
Working out is extremely good for both my physical and emotional health.
Gross, I know.
Yet another thing my mom and dad were right about. Gross x2 lol!
I met some incredibly ambitious and talented people who had a big part in pushing me to do something ambitious.
I had the pleasure of meeting Michael Monahan and Annalise Mahanes from the band Glow Co. They played at the Tin Roof here in Memphis and after introducing myself (introvert, say whaaat?!), we became friends!
These two stay grinding on their music and it’s truly inspirational to me. I love working and I love working on passion projects the most. I had no idea what to do with my free time, but when I met them it urged me to figure it out.
Along with the band, Michael customizes shoes and they are hella fire. Check me out in them⇓, blog colors and all.😍 And go follow him on Instagram and get yourself a pair!
[AND you should go check out Glow Co.’s amazing website that just went live on the 1st of January!!]
I’m not unbreakable or invincible. Sadly.
The upswing in my emotional health over the past year has been incredible. I love myself a lot. But that doesn’t mean I don’t still get so, so sad. And when I get so sad, I end up getting a little disappointed in myself for not being “stronger” or not letting it affect me the way it does.
But I’m allowed to have those days. We all are. And there is nothing like a hella motivational, positive day that follows these days that makes it all better. I can usually always count on a mood boost the day after a bad day.
I learned that I am capable of a whole lot of shit.
I put together our website by watching videos and reading how-to articles and I think launching this website has been one of my proudest moments in life. There is a lot a person can do when they put their mind to it and it’s really incredible to see yourself do just that.
BLOGGING IS LIFE.
We launched MyLifelines on September 1, 2018 and it is EVERYTHING. Well, not everything. It is currently void of making me an income but, you know, maybe one day. I am honestly surprised it took me this long to start a blog. Not only is it giving me a space to learn marketing and writing, it is also providing me with so many new friendships with people around the world and it gives me a place to put out my thoughts which, weirdly, sometimes people like to read my thoughts. <3
Also, a HUGE shout out to my Twitter friends who are always there for me even when I am drowning!! You can get to know them in our Twitter Friends post!!
I realized I have a serious passion for empowering women and working towards having more women in leadership roles.
There is so much I still have to learn about where I want this blog and my passion to go. I am learning a ton about what is important and what we need to pay attention to and shine a light on and I am figuring out how to do it, and in what style. It has been amazing learning from so many brilliant women. We have been able to meet many through our Women Wednesday segment and that is going to continue to be amazing in 2019!

Going into business with your best friends is hella hard but not impossible.
We still have a long way to go and there are many things we all need to work on together and separately. But without the two loves of my life, Lauren and Jordan, this would not have been possible/I would have lost my mind if I had to do it by myself. I am so excited to go into our first FULL year of MyLifelines and I can’t wait to see what Lauren, Jordan and I will come up with and what we will learn about ourselves and each other.✨
I realized this year was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING and I can’t wait for another wonderful one!
My perspective changed a lot throughout the course of 2018. I learned what was important to me, what was healthy for me and what I could do to continue to better my life and my future. I started living for me. And I started this blogging adventure, with my besties, for me and for you!!
I hope it has helped some of you. Even if it’s just by bringing a smile or a laugh to your face. That’s what we are here for! Thanks for being on this journey with us. <3
